Self
Confidence from the Words of Napoleon Hill
It's
nothing new to say that self confidence is an important requirement of living in
2010 society. At every turn there is a decision to be made,
often that decision is too difficult for one to make and thus
one may rely on a friend or family member to make it for them.
I am going to recite
here a Quotation taken from Napoleon HIll which for me still
holds true today and will stay long beyond my years:
"No man ever
achieved worthwhile success who did not, at one time or other,
find himself with at least one foot hanging well over the brink
of failure."
It may be important
here to go back to Napoleon Hill’s early years to show just what
can be achieved from humble beginnings because he had a very
difficult start in life. He was born in a one room cabin in the
Appalachian town of Pound in Southwest Virginnia, his mother
died when he was 9 years old and his Father was married again
two years later. He managed to get jobs as a Reporter for
small time local Newspapers and used the money he made to go to
Law School, but quickly had to leave due to financial reasons.
Not exactly a start in life from which to achieve the great
things that he did in helping millions of people to go forward
in their lives.
Ok, so this was an
extraordinary man, you might say, but I would suggest he started
out as we have seen way behind where you and I might have been
at that early age.
I think the Quotation
can be attributed to pretty much anything expected of us today
if we want to make anything of our lives. Having the self
confidence to decide even something relatively trivial to most
people like whether to buy a Book which might cost rather more
than you can afford - can for you turn out to be major point in
your week.
Making that one,
possibly trivial decision to many people could have a major
impact on you, by maybe finding out how to do something that
seemed impossible for you to achieve, can make you feel 10 feet
tall and, who knows, can give you that all important self
confidence to go out and achieve another small step in your
life.
Above all YOU are
taking a step forward. Just a little at a time can go a long
way!
I remember only to
well, many years ago, my husband being made redundant for a
second time and the time it took him to find another Job. The
job he did get, through a former colleague who had heard that he
was out of work, was as a Sales Representative, totally
different from the office bound job as a Planning Engineer that
he had had before.
Anyway, the point of
this story is that whilst out on the road, visiting potential
Customers there were times when he found he could not physically
enter the Company for no other reason than that it did not feel
right – in other words he did not have the Self Confidence to do
it.
I am going to end here
with the quotation that now means so much to both of us as we go
about our daily lives – it does mean so much to us – that I will
again share it with you –
"No man ever
achieved worthwhile success who did not, at one time or other,
find himself with at least one foot hanging well over the brink
of failure."
In case you do
not know of Napoleon Hill – amongst many great books He wrote
the Classic Self Help book – Think and Grow Rich – which
has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and still sells today.
I hope this short
Article might help you in some small way.
